There are real holidays and there are fake holidays but there are also those holidays that fall somewhere right between the two and National Superhero Day would have to be one of them. The holiday falls on April 28 and is celebrated by fans of both superheros and villains alike. Many of the true fans will even dress up with their favorite capes and costumes just to make the celebration official. If you are one of the true fans, you might be interested in watching one of these movies as each of them are about superheroes and villains in some shape or form.
Iron Man
“Iron Man” is the story of billionaire Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), an inventor who can create just about anything from almost nothing at all and who is kidnapped by terrorists to create a weapon of incredible proportions. What the terrorists don’t know is that instead of creating their weapon, Stark creates an indestructible suit which he then uses to escape. But what Stark becomes aware of during the whole ordeal is actually much bigger than he expected and he must use his new suit in a battle against an evil much more terrifying than the simple terrorists that kidnapped him. With the help of his secretary Virginia “Pepper” Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and his colleague Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes (Terrence Howard), good might just win against evil in the superhero classic that is “Iron Man”.
The Avengers
What do you get when you take Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, and Hawkeye and put them together on the biggest, baddest team of Superheroes ever? That’s right, you get “The Avengers”. S.H.I.E.L.D. is the agency tasked with the job of keeping the peace throughout the world and it is run by Nick Fury, director and recruiter of the entire organization. It is also the organization that ends up putting together the only team that has any kind of chance at keeping the world from experiencing total and complete destruction. The Avengers ultimately becomes S.H.I.E.L.D.’s primary agents and the team responsible for securing the safety of the planet and life as we know it today.
The Dark Knight
“The Dark Knight” takes over where “Batman Begins” left off and the action is even better than ever. Batman (Christian Bale) is forced to take on one of his biggest enemies, the Joker (Heath Ledger) and the Joker has got more tricks up his sleeve than he has ever had before. The streets of Gothom City seem to be safe and secure when everything begins to fall apart yet again. As usual it will take the efforts of not just Batman, but everyone else who wants to see the streets of Gothom safe once again, to defeat the Joker and his band a wacky henchmen. Maggie Gyllenhaal stars as the lovely Rachel Dawes, Gary Oldman stars as Lt. James Gordon, and Aaron Eckhart stars as District Attorney Harvey Dent in this sequel in the Batman series of movies..
The Incredibles
After several lawsuits are filed against the Parr family, for situations relating to their superhero status, they are forced into early retirement and thus into the watchful care of the Superhero Protection Program. As part of the program, they are required to live the lives of normal everyday people in a normal everyday family situation. “The Incredibles” tells the story of Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible), his wife Helen Parr (Elastic Girl), their son Dash (who is incredibly fast), and their daughter who can both become invisible and create force fields at will. Everyone is adjusting to their “normal” lives as best as they can until Bob is summoned to a remote island where he is told he will receive further instructions regarding a highly classified assignment awaiting him. The family is immediately out of retirement and thrown right back into the thick of it when they are faced with fighting a formidable foe and saving the world in the process.
Fantastic Four
During a mission aboard an experimental spacecraft, four astronauts are mistakenly exposed to incredible doses of gamma rays thus giving them special abilities. Reed Richards (loan Gruffudd) was leading the mission, was left with the ability to stretch his body to amazing proportions, and was given the name Mr. Fantastic. His girlfriend and partner in science Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) was left with the ability to become invisible at will and was given the name The Invisible Girl. Sue’s brother Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) was left with the ability to turn into a ball of fire whenever the need arises and was given the name The Human Torch. Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) was the pilot on the mission, was left with the ability to mutate into a stone like enormous creature with amazing strength, and was given the name The Thing. The “Fantastic Four” is the story of how the four superheroes set out to fight crime but find themselves instead fighting a fifth member of the mission crew who was evidently affected as well, but who is using his ability for evil rather than good. He is given the name Dr. Doom (Julian McMahon) and quite appropriately. Watch the “Fantastic Four” as they learn that their powers are much more effective when used together, and very necessary when fighting Dr. Doom.
