Earth Day is a worldwide event that is celebrated on April 22 of each year for the purpose of demonstrating environmental protection support. It originated back in 1970 and has since grown to become globally recognized. There are a total of more than 192 countries participating in the celebration each year, and it is now coordinated by the Earth Day Network. For those of you who might be interested in finding movies to watch on Earth Day, you might want to consider these favorites.
Epic
Epic is the story of a teenage girl who finds herself mysteriously transported to a fantasy world where the battle between good and evil is a battle that is fought on a daily basis. It is also a battle with much higher stakes than the typical battle between good and evil. In this 3D computer graphics adventure, the fate of both worlds lies in the hands of a teenage girl, a team of elite warriors, and a group of over the top figures who must learn to fight together if anyone is going to live to see another day.
Pocahontas
The movie “Pocahontas” is Disney’s attempt at combining its very own animation techniques with a story that is closer to a reality, from our not so distant past, than any of the other Disney animated feature films made. It tells the story of the Native American Indians during the time when European settlers came to claim America for their very own. It tells the story of the love shared between a young Indian woman (Pocahontas) and one of those very settlers, Captain John Smith. It tells the story of how a peaceful nation of Native American Indians lost their peaceful existence to a group of people who seemed to think that everything they were doing was for the good of everyone involved including the Indians.
Into the Wild
“Into the Wild” surrounds the life of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch), and just how far he will go to become one with nature. After graduating from Emory University in 1990, Christopher decides to give away everything he owns, and leave everyone he loves, to begin his journey towards an inner peace that he feels only Alaska can offer him. He meets a number of interesting people along the way and experiences life in ways that not very many people experience. It is only through sheer determination that Christopher will accomplish his goal but will the price be worth the reward?
Furry Vengeance
When the construction of a new subdivision threatens the natural environment and its inhabitants, it is a single determined raccoon, who decides to do what needs to be done to stop things before it is too late, that makes a difference. Dan Sanders (Brendan Fraser) is a real estate developer who picks up and moves his family to Oregon where he is tasked with the job of supervising the undesirable pending construction of this new subdivision. It is only due to the efforts of the determined raccoon, and all of his friends living in the surrounding woods, that Dan has a change of heart and comes to realize that destroying one animal’s home to build another man’s home might not be the right thing to do after all.
Planet Earth
“Planet Earth” brings a message of consequences that could become reality if we are not careful with how we treat our planet. It spans a 12 month time period beginning in January and running through the end of December. It shows the different seasons and realities of just how things are in different areas of our beautiful planet. This 99 minute depiction will take you through the realities of nature and the chain of events that takes place as a result of life and how we live it on this great “Planet Earth”.
