Movies About Aviation Day

August 19 is the day in which the development of aviation is celebrated in the United States and there are several movies that mark the occasion perfectly. Here are just a few of them.

Night at the Museum 2

Night at the Museum 2 is the sequel to the original film and brings Ben Stiller back as night watchman Larry Daley, security guard for the National Smithsonian Museums. Watch as Larry continues to communicate with the “exhibits come to life”, and as the adventure gets even bigger and better than its prequel. Aviation plays a big role in Night at the Museum 2: Escape From the Smithsonian.

Marry Poppins

Julie Andrews stars in her screen debut role as Mary Poppins, new nanny to a couple of mischievous kids. Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber are two of the most impossible children and their father (David Tomlinson) is finding that keeping a nanny around is much more difficult than expected. When the children successfully chase away yet another nanny, dad decides to place one more ad for help. What he doesn’t realize is that the children have placed an ad of their own looking for a nanny with imagination and kindness. What they get is Mary Poppins arriving from the sky above on her umbrella-like parachute. She gets attached to the children quite quickly and with the help of dear friend Bert (Dick Van Dyke), teaches the children that imagination is much more powerful than they could have ever imagined.

How to train your Dragon

How to Train Your Dragon is the animated tale of a boy and his quest to impress his Viking chief father by capturing his very first dragon. This right of passage into manhood brings the young boy into the reality of just how difficult it is for the dragons that work hard to avoid capture on a daily basis. He becomes friends with one dragon in particular and begins a quest to create a safe environment for the dragons in the process.

Planes

Planes is Disney’s spin-off to the animated film “Cars”, and features the voice of Dane Cook as the little plane with big dreams. Watch as this little plane does everything possible to become the air racer that he so desperately wants to become.

Up

This computer-animated film features 78 year old Carl Fredericksen, a balloon salesman with a dream that involves roaming South America in search of adventure. To everyone’s surprise, Carl one day succeeds in making his dream a reality by tying thousands of balloons to his home sending it up into the deep blue sky. Carl finds out that he is not alone on his adventure when an 8 year old wilderness explorer by the name of Russell is found hiding out on his front porch. Things begin to get quite serious as the house lands in an area full of ferocious predators that Carl and Russell aren’t ready to face and are frankly, not accustomed to seeing in the first place.
