Earth Day is almost here. Celebrate the planet you love and enjoy special time with family or friends by watching one of these green movies.

Earth Day Movies

Wall-E

Gather with family and friends of all ages to enjoy the funny and loveable robot, Wall-E. Both children and adults are gently invited to consider what might happen to the earth if we stop taking care of it. Wall-E offers a glimpse into a neglected Earth, and a family friendly happy ending where the people in the film are reminded how important it is to care for the planet they call home. You will be entertained along the way with the funny antics of Wall-E and his friend EVE.

Free Willy

This classic family favorite serves as a reminder that all of Earth’s creatures should be respected. Willy, an Orca whale, is captures and brought to an amusement park. Jesse, a young boy, is forced to clean up the mess he made while vandalizing the amusement park. While working there, Jesse ends up bonding with Willy. After an unsuccessful attempt to perform with Willy in front of a crowd at the amusement park, Jesse decides Willy must be allowed to return to the ocean and his family, and sets off on the difficult journey to free him. The special relationship between Jesse and Willy is captivating, and the message in the film is clear; all creatures of Earth should be treated fairly.

Ice Age: The Meltdown

Much of Earth Day’s focus is, as it should be, on the current situation on Earth and what we can do to better care for Earth in the future. Earth day is also, however, about celebrating Earth’s past. Ice Age: The Meltdown is another entertaining, family friendly option to educate viewers about an important time in Earth’s past- the end of the Ice Age.

Arctic Tale

This film is a more serious selection. It is a documentary that chronicles the life of a Polar bear and her cubs, and a Walrus and her calf. Both the Polar Bears and the Walruses in this film struggle because of climate changes. Shorter winters make it more difficult for the cubs and the calf to find food. A film like this creates a personal connection between viewers and the animals being presented, and makes their struggles with climate change more of a concrete issue.

March of the Penguins

March of the Penguins is a documentary, like Arctic Tale, and is an excellent choice if you are interested in a more serious and factual film. This film follows Emperor Penguins through breeding season. These penguins must go for months without food and make long, dangerous journeys to get from their breeding ground, that is located on solid, safe ice, to the open water where food is available. Like Arctic Tale, this film creates an opportunity for viewers to connect with animals struggling with climate changes on Earth on a much more personal level.
