2014 is upon us and with the New Year is coming opportunities to hit the theaters. While finding a good wholesome family movie can be a daunting task at times, 2014 has come with quite a number of wonderful possibilities. Some may find them spectacular while others may find them mediocre but the fact remains, the possibilities are there. Here is our list of 16 possibilities and a brief description on each of them.
The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box
This is a movie that is full of magic, mystery and monsters. The only problem with that is that the magic is a powerful evil, the mystery is very ancient, and the monsters are out to steal the children of the world. But there is hope in a hero named Mariah Mundi who must save his family from the very evil he must destroy.

The Nut Job
A nut store in and of itself is simply a nut store that is until it becomes the saving grace for a banished squirrel named Surly. Surly is chased from his home in the park and is forced to make it in the big city. Will he survive, and save the park community he was forced to leave in the first place? The Nut Job is a story of how change, while unexpected yet unavoidable, is in many cases for reasons we would never expect yet for reasons that are far bigger than we would ever understand had we not gone through them to begin with. Look forward to the voice support of famous actors such as Channing Tatum, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman.

The Lego Movie
LEGO land is a wonderful place where changes can be accomplished with the replacement of a single LEGO piece that is until an evil LEGO tyrant threatens to glue the LEGO universe together. A single ordinary miniature LEGO figure is mistaken for the amazing master builder of the LEGO universe and is recruited to join the ultimate quest, a quest that could mean the difference between life in the LEGO universe or the destruction of all LEGO figures alive.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman
A boy and his dog are a team that cannot be separated but who really runs things. In this fun and adventurous movie, it is Mr. Peabody who runs the show and builds the WABAC machine; a time machine he and his adopted boy Sherman use to travel back in time. Together they witness world changing events first-hand, and have the opportunity of a lifetime in that they are given a chance to change history. Their success, or failure, will make all the difference in the world.

Spy Kids 5
Scheduled to be released in 2014, Spy Kids 5 is director Robert Rodriguez’s newest in the fun series of Spy Kids movies. There isn’t much info out on this one but it is expected to be as fun and adventurous as each of the other 4 installments that starred famous parents Antonio Banderas and Jessica Alba. We’ll have to see you at the movies for this one but look forward to a fun time.

Muppets Most Wanted
Is the loveable Kermie the real Kermit the frog or is he an imposter? In “Muppets Most Wanted” the Muppets, while on a grand world tour, find themselves smack dab in the middle of a European jewelry caper that could very well be lead by the mastermind Kermit the frog and a not-so-nice sidekick. Can the Muppets foil the crime and stop Kermie and is it really Kermie at all?

Rio 2
Going from the magical city to the wilds is a shock to the system for Blu, Jewel, and their three kids but they learn to survive in Rio 2. However, fitting in doesn’t come easy for Blu when he is not only faced with vengeful Nigel but even worse with his father-in-law. The fun is never ending in Rio 2.

The 39 Clues
Based on multiple books, collectible cards, and an online game, “The 39 Clues” surrounds the Cahill family, the most powerful family in the world. The mystery of their super-power will only be revealed when the 39 clues that are hidden around the world are finally found. This one is a new concept that could easily become a hit among readers and gamers everywhere.
Maleficent
This is a twist on the tale of the “Sleeping Beauty” and looks at the tale through the eyes of the villainous Maleficent. Looking at the heart hardening events that ultimately lead to the curse of the Princess in this light might just have you looking at the “Sleeping Beauty” tale differently; or will it?

How to Train Your Dragon 2
This sequel to the spectacular tale of Hiccup and Toothless takes place 5 years later during a time of peace between dragons and Vikings. But peace is cut short when the inseparable pair stumbles onto a secret ice cave where hundreds of new wild dragons and a mysterious dragon rider dwell. The only chance of victory during the ensuing battle is in total unity between Hiccup, Toothless, and the Vikings of the once peaceful land.

Protecting the historic Piston Peak National Park from a wildfire is the job of the crew of elite firefighting aircraft who have devoted their lives to the job. “Planes: Fire & Rescue” features air racer Dusty who has been side swiped by a damaged engine and comes to realize that racing may not be in his future. However, fighting wildfires just might be. Dusty joins the firefighting team and begins a journey that changes his life forever. Included are the voices of actors Dane Cook and Julie Bowen.

Dolphin Tale 2
This sequel to the original “Dolphin Tale” is a heartwarming story of yet another rescued bottle nose dolphin named Hope. Hope is a new baby dolphin rescued by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in 2010. Expect to see Winter in this sequel as well.

The Boxtrolls
This movie is about a group of underground trolls who raised a boy from childhood. This boy is faced with the task of attempting to save his friends from destruction and the task is not going to be easy.

Big Hero 6
Walt Disney Animation Studio pulls out all of the stops in this spectacular movie starring the genius robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada and a robot named Baymax. The two must join forces with a team of first-time crime fighters to save the city of Fransokyo from total destruction. Success will depend on whether or not the group can get past their differences and work together as the team who can change the direction that the city is headed in.

Dreamworks Animation is working bringing Adam Rex’s children’s book The True Meaning of Smekday to the big screen. A story about a group of aliens who try to take over the earth, but one teenage girl proves to be a problem.

Annie
This is a contemporary remake of the original musical “Annie” and stars Quvenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx. It is based upon the 1924 comic strip Little Orphan Annie by Harold Gray.

Night at the Museum 3
“Night at the Museum 3” will take place in London, England and will see Ben Stiller return as security guard Larry Daley. Robin Williams will also return as Teddy Roosevelt and the action will definitely not be lacking.
