5 Simple Steps to Get the Word Out About Your Outdoor Movie Event

Advertising Outdoor Movie Night

You have taken the time to plan all of the details for your outdoor movie event. You have picked the perfect venue, a great movie and a reliable event production company. You have thought of everything, right? What about advertising? You can plan the perfect outdoor movie event, but if only a few guests show up, all of your planning will not have been worth the effort. Marketing your outdoor movie event is a crucial planning step. Here are 5 simple steps to get the word out about your outdoor movie event.

Create Flyers

Flyers are a great way to advertise an outdoor movie event. Flyers can be hung up at the movie location and around the community and they can be distributed to potential movie-goers. If your event is at a school, for example, hang flyers in prominent areas like the office and send them home in students’ backpacks. In addition to making a nice looking flyer, be sure to include all of the essential information like movie title and the time and location for your event.

Press Releases

Press releases are another good way to promote your event. Send press releases to local newspapers and bloggers to get the word out to as many people in the community as possible.

Social Media

Social media can be a great marketing tool. Use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to reach out to a lot of people at once and get them all of the movie event information. If possible, begin advertising this way a few weeks in advance and post occasional reminders as the date approaches. Social media users typically check their accounts often, so reminders on this platform are very effective.

Encourage Members to Bring a Friend

Encourage members of your organization or company to bring a friend to the event. Whether you are a company, a church, a school or even the local parks and recreation department, you can encourage employees and members to spread the word and bring guests to the event. This is a simple way to bring in a few more guests.

A Banner

Create a banner to a hang up at your event location. Anyone who visits the location during the time leading up to the event date will know about the movie event when they see the banner. Make your banner eye-catching, and, just like with a flyer, be sure to include all of the essential information to make it simple for anyone who wants to attend.

Without guests, your outdoor movie event cannot be a success. As you plan, be sure to include some solid marketing strategies. These tips won’t take too much time or effort, but will go a long way towards achieving a higher turnout.

Free Ways To Advertise Your Outdoor Movie Event

Posted by Paul Murray on Wednesday Jun 6, 2012 Under Tips

Today I want to talk to you about free ways to advertise your movie event. That’s free, not three. You’ve planned your movie event. You’ve picked your date. You’ve picked your movie. And now you need to get the word out. There are over a hundred free ways to do this . I’m going to share five ways.

Number one: Consider just simply word of mouth. Start with members and supports of your organization, use meetings, and use newsletters. Word of mouth is a strong promoting tool because it comes from a reliable and trusted source.

Number two: Consider putting up posters in your local community. Here at Southern Outdoor Cinema, we provide our customers with full color event posters with the important information of what movie is actually going to be shown, the date and time of the event, and where it’s being located.

Number three: Use your free local resources, such as newspapers. Often times you can go ahead and submit to the local calendar for your newspaper section. Also consider going ahead and creating a press release. If you have never created a press release before, consider that you need to at least provide them with four out of the five W’s. First off, who is doing the outdoor movie. What it is, you know, what the movie is, where it’s going to be held and when. Certainly you’re going to need those things for people to come out to your movies, so make sure you provide them in the press release.

Number four: Consider putting up a banner at your location hopefully having people drive by a location and see a banner for a free outdoor movie event will cause them to consider coming out to your event.

Number five: Over forty percent of the population is on Facebook. Consider having your information on a Facebook account that you have for your organization, or simply create a Facebook account for your particular movie event. If you found these tips helpful, then share them on Facebook or or Twitter.

Where to Hang an Event Poster

Posted by Paul Murray on Tuesday Jun 5, 2012 Under Tips

Event posters are one of the simplest and cheapest ways to promote your outdoor movie event, but it is important to choose the right places to hang your posters to attract the best turnout. Here are some tips for choosing the right locations to hang your outdoor movie event posters to effectively advertise your event.

Choose high traffic areas. When a large amount of people see the posters, you are more likely to have a good turnout. For a neighborhood event, like one put on by a homeowner’s association, hang posters in the community club house. For other organizations, choose high traffic areas like the main entrance or hallways. If your organization has a bulletin board, then be sure to prominently display a poster there.

If your outdoor movie event is open to the public you should advertise by hanging posters on public bulletin boards in places like county parks. Target your desired audience by partnering with local businesses that serve your desired audience. For a family friendly event, ask for permission to hang posters promoting your event at local daycare centers and pediatrician’s offices. If your event is geared more towards teens, then hang a poster at a local teen center, bowling alley or other popular teen hangout.

Be creative and choose a variety of places to advertise your outdoor movie event, but keep in mind that there are some places that are not appropriate for advertising. Never hang movie event posters on private property or fences, or leave them on cars.

Besides choosing the right places to hang your posters, you must also choose the best material for hanging them. Never use duct tape, since it can cause damage when it is removed; instead use painter’s or double sided tape to hang your posters. You do not want to damage any property when taking the posters down, especially if you hang posters at local businesses.

There are many ways to advertise an outdoor movie event, including utilizing new methods like social networking. The basic poster is still effective, though, and should be included in your outdoor movie event marketing strategy. Use these tips to make the most of your outdoor movie event posters by choosing the best locations to hang them.

Tips for Creating a Poster for Your Outdoor Movie Event

Posted by Paul Murray on Thursday May 10, 2012 Under Tips

Marketing or advertising for your outdoor movie event is one of the most important tasks you need to complete if you want your event to be successful. Creating a poster for your movie event is one of many simple marketing strategies you can use. Here are some helpful tips for creating a poster for your outdoor movie event.

Timing

Do not put up posters the day before your event. It is important to begin marketing or advertising your event early, at least a couple of weeks before the movie event, possibly even sooner. This gives you a better chance of achieving a higher turnout, since people will have time to make plans to attend your event.

Location

Choose where to put up your posters based on your target audience. If this is a family friendly event, hang your posters on bulletin boards at local parks, pediatrician’s offices, libraries, and other local family friendly hangouts. For an event on a college campus, advertise on bulletin boards around campus including residence halls and dining areas. Be sure to ask permission before hanging up any promotional materials.

Design

As you begin designing your poster, you will be faced with many decisions. Should you use color or not? What type and size font should you use? Should you include a picture? A few simple guidelines can help you make these decisions. Using color is a good idea to make your poster stand out. You should choose a large, simple font so that people can easily read your poster; keep the information you include simple and to the point so there is enough space for a larger font.

Content

Be sure to include the most important information; the date, time and location of the event are absolutely essential pieces of information. For a movie event you should also include the movie being shown and the recommended audience. For example, if the event is good for young children, teenagers, adults only, or appropriate for all ages.

Be sure to carefully proofread your poster. Another set of eyes for proofreading is a great idea even if you have a firm grasp of spelling and grammar, since it can be easy to miss your own mistakes. If you choose to include a picture, make sure it relates appropriately to the outdoor movie event you are hosting, and that the picture stands out on your poster.

If there is a website for the event or a contact person, be sure to include that information for those with questions about the event.
