Movies About Independence

Independence Day is an American holiday used to celebrate the Declaration of Independence which took affect on July 4, 1776. It was a declaration of our independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain otherwise known as the United Kingdom, and is commonly celebrated on July 4th of each year. Here are a few movies that would be perfect for watching on Independence Day this year.

An American tale

An American Tale is the animated story of a family of mice who escapes from Russia during the late 1800s, a time when it was being ruled by a Czar of Russian cats. Fievel Mousekewitz is a Russian-Jewish mouse who escapes to America in search of a land free of cats and their cruel way of ruling over mice. However, things go terribly wrong when Fievel is separated from his family, when they arrive in New York City, and when he finds out that there are just as many cats in America as there were in Russia. During Fievel’s adventure he meets good mice and he meets bad mice, and he even (to his surprise) makes friends with a cat. But will Fievel ever find his family again? That is a question that will only be answered by watching An American tale.

The Patriot

Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) is a farmer who fought in the French-Indian wars, became a peaceful man after the death of his wife, and was forced to lead a regiment of Carolina patriots to make a sizable difference in the American Revolution. Gabriel (Heath Ledger), Benjamin’s son, joins in the fight against the British only to return home seriously injured, and with a warrant for his arrest. Col. Tavington (Jason Isaacs) arrives to arrest Gabriel, and in the skirmish accidentally kills another of Benjamin’s sons. With one son sentenced to be hung, and another left dead, Benjamin is forced back into a life that he vowed never to return to. With the help of a friend, and fellow brother-at-arms Harry Burwell (Chris Cooper), Benjamin successfully rescues his son, and together they form the Regiment of Carolina patriots who become heroes to the colonists and wanted by the British. The Patriot is a story of just how fine the line can be that separates revenge and courage, and of just how far a father’s love will take him even in the midst of war.

Independence Day

When a group of spaceships approach earth, they are greeted with open arms in anticipation of a peaceful first meeting with alien life. To everyone’s surprise, the first meeting with alien life is going to turn into a fight for the lives of everyone on earth, and for the survival of earth itself. Independence Day is definitely Hollywood’s take on how the first battle with alien life should be as it is fought by some of the most unlikely of characters. In the midst of the chaos, it is a computer genius (Jeff Goldblum) who foresaw the alien’s true intent, along with a hot-shot pilot (Will Smith) and the President of the United States (Bill Pullman), who leads the fight against the alien evil. But will they succeed? Watch Independence Day and find out who wins in the final battle for earth!

National Treasure

Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) is a man on a mission, and the mission is the same mission that generations before him have found themselves a part of; protect the code that leads to treasures beyond your wildest imagination. But the only way to protect the code is to steal the very treasures that holds the clues to breaking the code in the first place. National Treasure is the story of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin, and the enormous cache of gold that they were supposed to have hid during the Revolutionary War. But more importantly, it is about a single man on a quest to protect the clues left by these three men, the clues that could make anyone lucky enough to find them rich beyond their wildest imagination.

-Coming to America

Coming to America stars Eddie Murphey as African prince Akeem, and Arsenio Hall as his faithful retainer Semmi. The two find themselves in America, which is all part of prince Akeem’s plan to avoid a marriage, arranged by his father (James Earl Jones), that he so desperately wants to avoid. While in America, prince Akeem takes a regular job at a fast food chain in order to avoid being detected for who he really is. This is where he meets the woman who he falls in love with (daughter of the owner of the restaurant chain) and who he eventually wants to marry. Now all prince Akeem has to do is convince the King that his love is more important than a tradition that goes back for longer than he can remember.
