The action-comedy film, ‘Barely Lethal’ starring Samule L. Jackson, Jessica Alba and Hailee Steinfeld, is an upcoming movie that was filmed in Georgia. The film is about a 16-year-old international assassin who has grown tired of the business and wishes for a “normal” teen life. In efforts to get out of business, she fakes her own death and enrolls in a suburban high school where she finds that being popular can be more painful than she would have ever thought. The cast also includes Sophie Turner (‘Game of Thrones’) and Thomas Mann (‘Project X’). The director of the film is Kyle Newman, mostly known for ‘Fanboys’ and ‘The Hollow’.

In Perry, Georgia, the crew of ‘Barely Lethal’ spent about two weeks at Guardian Centers of Georgia to do set construction before filming began at the facility. Guardian Centers opened in 2012 and is a disaster preparedness and validation center. At Guardian Centers they do disaster response training for people in the military as well as for federal, state, fire and law enforcement. The facility includes an entire cityscape that is able to create a very realistic setting for large-scale disaster training exercises. Filmmakers for ‘Barely Lethal’ found Guardian Centers to be a perfect and convenient place to film portions of the movie. The large warehouses and collapsing buildings fit right into what the filmmakers were looking for in a set. The facility also has its own private highway, which was perfect for a chase scene that was filmed. Though the crew spent two weeks on set construction, they were able to use many existing structures that, in turn, saved millions of dollars. Guardian Centers was also able to provide a very private atmosphere. The public was unable to see anything and therefore the need to have extra security was unnecessary. A publicist for the film, David Linck, was quoted as saying “Guardian Centers has been a dream for us to shoot at”. He also stated that the staff was very helpful and “I encourage movie makers to come here because it’s a jewel”. The only complaint was that Perry did not have enough hotels for the 150 people in the cast and crew which caused them to have to stay in the neighboring city of Macon. According to the economic development coordinator of Perry, they are aware of their need for more hotels and have made it a priority for the City Council.

In addition to filming at Guardian Centers in Perry, several area high schools and vacant high school buildings were used for scenes in the film, including schools in Covington, Decatur and Marietta.

According to imdb.com the film is currently in post-production and is set to be released sometime in 2014.
