5 Movies to Watch to get you in the Mood for Christmas

Movies About Christmas

Christmas is a holiday enjoyed by most people and for many, watching a great movie is the best way to get into the Christmas spirit. For those who enjoy watching a great movie around the Christmas holiday, here are a few favorites.

Miracle on 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street is simply a “must see” during the Christmas holiday season. It stars Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle, an individual who is not only the splitting image of Santa, but an individual who literally believes that he is Santa. Kris is asked to fill in for the Santa who would be leading the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade because of the previous Santa’s problem with drinking while on the job. As a result, he is also offered the position of Santa at the Macy’s department store, in the toy department. While playing the role of the department store Santa, Kris feels sorry for those who can’t afford the merchandise at Macy’s and advises customers to shop at some of the much cheaper stores in the area. Mr. Macy (Harry Antrim) surprisingly likes Kris’ suggestion and decides to use it as part of a customer service “gimmick” for Macy’s department store. Meanwhile, the in-house psychiatrist at Macy’s (Porter Hall) decides that Kris is a problem and makes arrangements to have him locked up at Bellevue, claiming that he is insane. The fact that Kris truly believes that he is Santa Claus doesn’t help matters one bit. But lucky for Kris, he has a number of influential friends in the right places.

The Polar Express

Billy (Hayden McFarland) is a boy struggling to believe in Santa, but having a very difficult time finding a reason to do so. The problem is that Billy’s family does everything they can to persuade him that none of it is true. Santa, the North Pole, the elves, all just a farce. Just when it seems that all hope for Billy’s belief is completely lost, Christmas Eve arrives and with it a magical train in the middle of the night. Billy is picked up by the train, and its conductor (Tom Hanks) notifies Billy that he is on his way to the North Pole to visit none other than Santa himself. Watch as Billy’s entire belief system is turned upside down, and as a boy is given the hope that only the Christmas spirit can bring.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Jim Carrey plays the role of the Grinch, a miserable, mean, green individual with every intention of ruining Christmas for everyone in the little town of Whoville. But the Grinch wasn’t always the unusually mean person that he is today. He was actually a resident of Whoville at one time, but was forced to leave simply because of his scary appearance. He now spends his days atop Mount Crumpet watching everyone in Whoville preparing for the Christmas festivities, waiting for his opportunity to steal their Christmas spirit along with their presents, decorations, trees, and everything else that has anything to do with Christmas.

Home Alone

Home Alone is the story of Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), a boy who finds himself alone for the holidays. While the rest of the family is aboard their flight to France, Kevin is still asleep in bed, completely unaware of his dilemma. When Kevin finally realizes that he has the whole house to himself, he is forced to learn to take care of himself and to defend his home against would-be robbers. The would-be robbers, on the other hand, come to wish that they had never stopped at Kevin’s house in the first place.

Elf

Will Ferrel plays the role of Buddy, one of the biggest elves in the entire North Pole. However, Buddy isn’t actually a real elf and becomes very upset when he learns the truth. He decides to travel to New York, the place of his birth, in hopes of finding his real family. What Buddy doesn’t realize is that New York is nothing like the North Pole, and the people of New York nothing like the elves. Buddy manages to find his biological father fairly easily but convincing dad to accept him will be a challenge.

Drive-In Movie: A Fun And Memorable Customer Appreciation Event

Posted by Paul Murray on Wednesday Dec 17, 2014 Under Event Productions, Tips

Drive-In Movie: Customer Appreciation Event

Customer appreciation is an important part of maintaining a loyal customer base, but many companies struggle with discovering a fun, unique way to accomplish this goal. An outdoor movie night offers customers the opportunity to attend a family-friendly event while simultaneously giving the business a chance to build positive brand recognition. Understanding how to hold such an event and the benefits that these events provide will help companies determine whether this marketing opportunity is right for them.

Benefits Of Hosting An Outdoor Movie Night Customer Appreciation Events

Holding customer appreciation events throughout the year is an essential method of maintaining the loyalty of current customers while attracting new ones to the business. Managers and owners have the opportunity to connect directly with their customer base during these events, and the feedback that is provided in a laid-back setting is invaluable to the business. Here are the benefits of holding a drive-in movie event for customers.

– Drive-in movies are fun and unique. The family-friendly events are also memorable, so customers will remember the event and the business for the long term.

– People who are thinking about becoming customers are more likely to do so if a business provides these outdoor movie events. Companies can feature their food or products at the event, so potential customers will be afforded the opportunity to sample what the company has to offer.

Chick-Fil-A Drive-In Movie Event

Chick-Fil-A Drive-In Movie

Businesses that are still on the fence about hosting a movie night can learn from the example of Chick-fil-A. The fast food restaurant’s recent outdoor movie event drew families to the giant inflatable movie screen placed by Southern Outdoor Cinema.

While the movie itself played a big role in the success of the evening, the initiative that Chick-fil-A took to make the night a memorable one helped to improve brand recognition and delight loyal customers. As a Christmas-themed event, Santa and Mrs. Claus were on-site to pose for pictures with families and little ones.

The drive-in movie was set up next to the restaurant for convenient access. Families were invited to relax in their vehicles and snuggle up in blankets for a showing of a holiday film. Holiday music was played throughout the event to complete the feeling of Christmas and the holidays, and inflatable holiday decorations contributed to the theme.

Family Drive-in

Of course, the Chick-fil-A cow made an appearance. The inclusion of the mascot helped to drive home the goal of brand recognition while offering children a fun experience that they are likely to remember forever. Hot chocolate and popcorn were sold at a concession stand set up near the screen to complete the movie experience.

Choosing Southern Outdoor Cinema

While there are benefits to holding an outdoor movie event, it is important for companies to choose the right equipment rental company to provide their customers with the best experience possible. There are DJs and equipment rental companies that provide low-quality screens and audio equipment, but impressing customers and showing appreciation for them requires something better.

Southern Outdoor Cinema of Atlanta offers the high-quality cinema equipment and exceptional service needed to create a unique, fun outdoor movie event for clients and their customers.

5 Movies to Watch for the Snowy Season

Posted by Paul Murray on Monday Dec 15, 2014 Under Movie Articles

Movies About Snowy Weather

Nothing is better than having a great movie to watch on a snowy day, and there just so happens to be a number of great movies to watch during the snowy winter season. Here are a few of the top picks.

Frosty the Snowman

Jimmy Durante is the narrator of this special animated film made for television, and he also sings the song with the same name as the title. Frosty the Snowman tells the story of a magical snowman who just so happens to come to life one day for the purpose of befriending a group of children.

Disney Frozen

Elsa is the Snow Queen who has put a magical spell on the entire kingdom, literally trapping it in what can only be described as an everlasting winter. Anna is the Snow Queens sister, and one of only two people around brave enough to search for the Queen, and put an end to the terrible spell once and for all. Kristoff is the second brave individual, and is what would be considered an extreme mountain man by the people in the kingdom. Anna and Kristoff take on the extreme cold hoping to reach the Snow Queen in time, and save the kingdom from utter peril before it is too late.

Jack Frost

Jack Frost is a fantastic movie, with amazing special effects, perfect for the entire family to watch on a cold winter’s day. Unlike the horror film with the same name, this movie stars Michael Keaton as Jack Frost, a husband and father who manages to cheat death by coming back as a snowman. While away on one of his many gigs, Jack decides to cancel the show and attempt to make it home to be with his wife (Kelly Preston) and son Charlie (Joseph Cross) for Christmas. The only problem is that a snow storm creates very dangerous driving conditions, and Jack crashes his car and dies while on his way home. It isn’t until the following Christmas, when Charlie builds a snowman, that Jack is able to come back in the very same snowman that Charlie builds. Jack takes advantage of this time and does as many things with Charlie as he can before the inevitable happens, and he melts away for good.

The Snowman

The Snowman is a recreation of the classic holiday story by Raymond Briggs. It tells the tale of a very young boy whose snowman manages to find a way to come to life one day, and in doing so carries the boy all the way to the North Pole. While at the North Pole, this boy is able to meet none other than Santa Claus. There is nothing inappropriate about this film which makes it perfect for even very young children to watch on a cold winter day.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is another film that was made special for television, and is also perfect for watching during the winter season. It tells the classic tale of Rudolph, a special reindeer with a special job. However, in this twist Rudolph meets up with an abominable snowman.

Movies That Float On Water

Posted by Paul Murray on Thursday Dec 11, 2014 Under Tips

Inflatable Movie Screen Rental Atlanta
Southern Outdoor Cinema is making a big splash at aquatic centers and lakes with our floating movie screen. This safe and fun way of showing family friendly movies makes for an unforgettable evening for movie guests. What could make a fun day of swimming and playing any better than seeing an outdoor movie?

Inflatable movie screens are becoming a popular choice of entertainment at many community, charity, and even private events, but you may not realize the possibilities that a water setting can create. Our new floating movie screens can be inflated and then have the blower removed. This allows the screen to float on the water safely. Guests can view the featured film from in the water or sitting along the edge.

The ability to float an inflatable screen on the water provides endless unique viewing experiences for you and your guests. By placing the screen in a pool guests can sit around the edge of the pool with their feet in, relax in lounge chairs, or even get right in the water with a floating tube. This works just as well at larger community events in the local pool as it does in your own private pool. Put the movie screen beachside and everyone can spread out blankets in the sand to watch a movie with the waves in the background. The sun setting is a beautiful beginning to an unforgettable family movie night.

Inflatable screens are also being used on ponds and in lakes where boats can pull up for the show. Pick a movie that relates to a water setting and you have an instant theme for your next party or event. Make it an all-day function by setting up games and activities in the area by the water. Serve seafood for a dinner fitting in with the setting, and don’t forget to create a kid’s area with food and games geared towards their favorite things.

When you hire Southern Outdoor Cinema, you are guaranteed to have a unique outdoor movie production. The best part of a movie showing with an inflatable movie screen is that it adds a whole new feeling to the evening. It’s always fun to gather together with friends and neighbors to enjoy a feature presentation, but when you do it in a water setting, it’s an entirely different experience. Your guests may soon forget exactly what movie they watched or who exactly came, but they’ll remember for a long time the fun of seeing that movie outdoors on the water.

Penguins of Madagascar - Parent Movie Review

In Penguins of Madagascar the story of the four beloved penguins from “Madagascar,” “Madagascar: Escape from Africa,” and “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” is continued. Once again, this group of elite escapees from New York’s city zoo are being led by Skipper through their many challenges. Kowalski, Rico, and Private are also back in this latest Dream Works Animation film. Directed by Simon J. Smith and Eric Darnell, the cast includes the voices of Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, Conrad Vernon, and Christopher Knights. The music composition is by Lorne Balfe, and it is rated PG.

In this movie the team starts out on a new adventure when they hear that penguins around the world are disappearing from zoos. The villain is Dave. Dave is an octopus who was once the star of his animal facility. That was until a group of penguins arrived and stole the show from him. After losing his place as the most popular attraction, Dave seeks revenge.

The penguins of Madagascar set out on the trail of Dave, but there is also another group after him. This is the North Wind, a group consisting of Agent Classified, Short Fuse, Eva, and Corporal. They have been given the assignment of corralling this tentacled villain.

During the story, our Madagascar friends resort to the usual cartoon elements while chasing Dave. Viewers will find plenty of slapstick humor and frenetic action that includes tranquilizer guns, explosions, and a Taser. The audience will also find questionable jokes, rude humor, and sexual innuendo. Most of these questionable aspects are based on the spy genre and will go over the children’s heads while being entertaining to the adults.

Positive Element

The moral of this movie is that “It doesn’t matter what you look like, it’s what you do.” The penguins are shown learning how teamwork can be very important in reaching our goals. As always, these guys teach us these valuable lessons through humorous situations.

The character of Dave learns that by seeking revenge he is left with an empty feeling. He discovers that getting revenge doesn’t satisfy us as much as one would first think.

Sexual Element

Two male penguins are shown kissing. Other characters are seen slapping each other on the buttocks. The characters do make crude sexually related comments during this film. That includes the phrase “grab your coconuts.”

Violent Element

Along with name calling, characters participate in cartoon style, non-graphic violence. This includes punching, slapping, pushing, and shoving. There are characters that are eaten. Action scenes show abductions, explosions, car chases, and car crashes. One of the characters gets tasered. Some of them are sucked into a machine while others are run over.

Characters participate in a break-in and are shown stealing things. Later on they are shot with the use of tranquilizer darts. There are a few scary scenes as well as many moments of peril. One character is seen choking on a paper clip.

Drug and Alcohol Element

Characters are shown drinking champagne. Characters are also seen being shot with tranquilizers.

Conclusion

Penguins of Madagascar continues the story of our favorite arctic birds from the New York City Zoo. They learn to work together for a common goal while going after the villain. Dave learns the mistake of his ways, and he shows us that revenge isn’t such a good thing after all. These messages are sent to the audience along with the traditional slapstick humor these penguins are known for.

Parents do need to be aware that some scenes depict images they may not want their smaller children exposed to. They need to expect plenty of action and cartoonish violence throughout the film. Their decision on whether or not to let young children see it will depend on each child’s tolerance for the action scenes and crude humor. Those who are familiar with the characters will know what to expect.
